Who is a croupier?
Dealers who work in casinos and other gambling establishments are called croupiers. They perform many different tasks such as:
- organizing the game;
- dealing cards, dealing chips, taking bets;
- supervising the equipment involved in the game;
- assisting novice players, including teaching, explaining the rules, and helping them get oriented in the casino.
Dealers, as professional employees, are expected to have a good knowledge of the rules of the establishment in which they work, and to be able to answer any questions from visitors, even though this is usually not part of their direct duties – it is done by hostesses. Collecting bets, counting chips and paying out winnings are all duties of croupiers. Croupiers must always remain professional and strictly follow the rules of the establishment.
What can’t dealers do?
There are many strict restrictions in the job descriptions of employees in the gambling industry, which makes their life not as fabulous as it seems to some naive dreamers. For example, with the exception of games for which the rules require the dealer to be directly involved, croupiers are not allowed to show favor to individual visitors or participate in any type of gambling activity in the workplace. They also may not participate in illegal activities or accept tips from players. This may seem like a simple task at first glance, but employees must remain impartial and unbiased throughout their working hours.
That’s it! Thank you for reading to the end. We hope it was useful and entertaining for you. We wish you the best of luck!
